Breeding Pandas In Captivity

This is an interesting video that gives us more insight of how scientists breed pandas in captivity. It's sad that we have to resort to such measures to keep the Giant Panda Species going ):

  1. Hi Sophia! What are some of the factors that contribute to to the sedentary lifestyle of the panda and their focus on sleep and food instead of reproduction? (As mentioned in the video ^^) Thanks!

    1. They are sedentary because they need fat to keep warm up in the mountains especially during winter (:

    2. Oh okay! Do you think there are other less harmful ways in which they can breed the pandas in captivity?

    1. Animals raised in the zoo also receive protection against forces that kill pandas in the wild. However when these pandas are released into the wild they cannot fend for themselves and might die.

    2. So do you agree that captive bred pandas should be released back into the wild? Why/Why not?

    1. I think it's necessary and a good idea but needs to be improved. The zoo should find a way to make living in captivity more realistic so when pandas are released into the wild they will be able to take care of themselves.

    2. Agreed! It would be totally a waste of time, effort and money to breed a panda that can't take care of itself :(
