Yesterday the four of us (Zhou Zhou, Alicia, Lin Wei and myself) made a trip to the river safari to observe Giant Pandas in action. Or not. They were rather slow moving animals! Anyway first we made out way through the River Safari looking at all the interesting animals that lived along various rivers from all over the world. When we got to the Panda enclosure there was a long queue waiting to go in. We were only allowed 15 min inside the panda enclosure. It was an air conditioned bio-dome (18C - 22C). This is to keep the Pandas comfortable as in the mountains in China the climate is much cooler than in Singapore. The first animal we saw was the golden pheasant. It shares the same habitat as the Giant Panda. We also met the adorable red panda before we finally reached the Pandas!

Red Panda!
Although Jia Jia, the female Panda, was said to be very shy and always hiding in her den, this time she was roaming about while Kai Kai, the male, was sleeping! In the zoo the pandas are fed with carrots, high fibre biscuits, apples and of course bamboo!
"Each day Jia Jia and Kai Kai are given 30kg of bamboo to pick and choose."
I thought this was interesting. I wonder how it tastes!
Kai Kai snoring away
Jia Jia walking around. We were lucky that she wasn't hiding!
Afterwards we stopped by the Panda Mama Cafe for a snack!
Yep it was a fun experience although Kai Kai was sleeping :( I think we could have interviewed some of the tourists/workers there to find out more about their opinions on the giant pandas.

This field trip was successful other than the fact that we did not interview any zookeepers there.

We should have used that chance and interview some of the people there. But still we got something out of this trip :)
