Hi guys!
Please go to this link and read this recount! It is by a fieldworker Fu Jianrong and it tells us about his journey and experience doing the National Panda Survey (refer to post on conservation efforts of the giant pandas).

This article actually tells us that the National Panda Survey requires a lot of manpower in order to succeed. Also, it is an extremely treacherous and tiring expedition. The fieldworkers have to face many foreseen circumstances such as bad weather.
However, despite all these setbacks, the fieldworkers still continue doing this survey! It really shows how dedicated they are :) This means that we are putting in effort and doing the best we can to conserve giant pandas! A good sign :)
After reading the article and your comments, I feel more strongly against the idea of giving up hopes on saving the Giant Pandas (as mentioned in the first post). Instead, we should put in more efforts, since people out there have put in their hard work and sweat with perseverance to save the pandas, as students who are sitting down in their chairs, we should address their efforts and address these issue to the public, so that these people's effort will not be gone down to waste. Lastly, from this case study, I realised the importance of perseverance. Although with perseverance we may not succeed, however, without perseverance their will not be any success.

1. Do you think that these surveys are necessary? Why?
ReplyDelete2. What do you feel about the fieldworkers perseverance? Do you think that this is important? Why?

1. Yep! We can collect valuable data from these surveys which will aid the researchers in the planning and implementation of the various panda conservation efforts :) For example, when we know which province has the least number of pandas, the researchers would know to put that particular place as their priority.
ReplyDelete2. I really admire their perseverance. Despite such unfavourable conditions, they still managed to complete their fieldwork. (Compare it with us and our homework:P) Yep their perseverance is crucial to the end results of the survey which will affect the subsequent panda conservation efforts!

However, according to some statements made, it is said that surveys made are not very accurate. What are your views? Why do you feel so?

Well, I believe that all surveys conducted are inaccurate to a certain extend. There will definitely be some sort of false information given during surveys (for eg because of fear). However, in this case, their expedition might not be very accurate as they are only there on a one-time basis. Hence, their results will be deduced from the information they gathered during that one time. Thus, it will be inaccurate to a certain extend as what they deduced might not be the case for other times.
DeleteHowever, I believe this inaccuracy will not affect the results greatly. I'm happy that they are actually taking the effort to conduct the survey :)
